A special vintage carved wood swan has come to roost in our living room! I always love when a piece (and a home) has a story to tell. This is the kind of home I’m so excited to create here, one that is uniquely layered and meaningful to us.
This vintage swan has belonged to my mom for years. Now he has finally come to live with us here. My mom actually has two of these swans, a pair, the other is living at my daughter Kylee’s house.
It was serendipitous that I happened to put this little drop leaf table behind the sofa after my mom gave me the bamboo cart. I didn’t even know I was going to get this swan until it appeared here last week!
Here’s a similar drop leaf table!
The swan is exactly the kind of piece I dreamed would look good on the table behind our sofa. It’s a charming statement with some height, so it feels great in the room. I just didn’t have the right piece yet, so needless to say, the swan was a delightfully welcome surprise! It arrived just at the right time.
Someone asked me the other day where these vintage gems have been while my parents were moving into their Tiny Cottage. My mom and dad have been clearing out the remaining items from their storage room (which they got to help them during the move and downsizing) when we’re down visiting family in Oregon. That is where the bamboo cart and swans were until last week when she brought this one here and set it on the table for me. I had no idea I would love him here this much, but I’m so happy to have it.
Speaking of the moving process, a lot of people who are downsizing or considering moving into multi-generational or family homes like we did have asked me how we handled a move like this. It can be quite a feat, ha! Worth the effort, of course, no regrets on embarking on this journey, but it’s not necessarily going to feel “simple” to downsize until you are finally settled. Maybe I’ll share more on this someday.
