So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).
1. Grossest Halloween candy?
There are so many to choose from, ha ha ha! Smarties, Swedish Fish, Bit o’ Honey, Good & Plenty, Hot Tamales, anything involving licorice… When I was a kid, I’d immediately pick all of those out of my candy stash. So gross!
2. Turtleneck or tights?
I’ll take the tights. I don’t like anything that encloses my neck unless I can immediately take it off! And is it just me, or are turtlenecks always kinda itchy?
3. Do you like trying on paper perfume samples in magazines and catalogs?
You know, even though those samples *never* smell like the perfume in the bottle, I do get a kick out of smelling a sample and trying it on my wrist. Maybe it’s because I grew up reading a ton of magazines, and it always felt like a treat to find a sample between the pages. It still delights me for some reason.
4. A core memory from Halloween from when you were a kid?
I was always going trick or treating with the most random assortment of kids from the neighborhood, and one year, I went with a girl named Peachy. We went to a seemingly regular-looking house with its lights on, knocked on the door and then heard loud, terrifying screams from inside. I remember us running for our lives down the driveway and to the sidewalk. Someone got a kick out of scaring the kids that night, apparently.
5. What are you currently marathoning?
I started the new BBC “Great Expectations”, and it’s super weird! I couldn’t look away, though. Oh, on the weekend, I watched the documentary series on David Beckham on Netflix, too. I don’t know a lick about soccer aka football, yet it was compelling enough to watch the entire thing.
Hello and happy, happy Monday, my friend. This morning when I walked Connor to school, I noticed so many trees in our neighborhood changing their colors, and now, when I go for walks outside, there’s a steady crunching of leaves underneath my feet. There’s something magical about this in-between time. I don’t think I’ve noticed it before, but it just feels so calm and cozy. I really love it.
Take it easy and be kind to yourself today, OK?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
